Types of Platforms in Platform Hopper
Platform Hopper is a free browser platformer built around bouncing. Every jump lands on a platform, and each platform type changes how you move, survive, and finish a level.
Whether you are learning the campaign or designing community levels in the level editor, knowing every platform type helps you read hazards, plan routes, and invent new puzzles.
Plain Platform
The Plain Platform is the basic bounce pad. It does nothing special beyond letting you rebound and keep moving.
Use it for spacing, rhythm, and safe routes. Most levels start here before introducing harder mechanics.
Switch Platform
Switch Platforms toggle on or off when you bounce on them. Turning every switch on is a core win condition in many levels.
They teach exploration and routing: you often need to hit switches in a deliberate order while managing hazards and timing.
Spike Platform
Spike Platforms are deadly on the pointy side. Spikes can sit on top, on the bottom, or on both sides.
Landing on spikes ends the run. Landing on the safe side lets you bounce or stand depending on orientation and gravity, so careful reading of each spike layout is essential.
Elevator Platform
Elevator Platforms move when bounced on. Each one can travel up, down, left, or right, then stop if it collides with another object.
They create moving paths, delayed routes, and puzzles where you must reposition platforms before you can reach a switch or exit.
Fragile Platform
Fragile Platforms shatter after a single bounce. Once broken, they are gone for the rest of that attempt.
They reward commitment and punish hesitation. Plan your path so one-time landings still leave you a way forward.
Trampoline Platform
Trampoline Platforms bounce you farther and faster than a normal platform, making big gaps and tall climbs possible.
They are useful for speed, vertical shortcuts, and flashy routes in both campaign and community levels.
Anti-Bounce Platform
Anti-Bounce Platforms remove the bounce. Landing on one stops your rebound so you can stand still or reset momentum.
They are great for precise stops, waiting on timed routes, or forcing players to jump again from a dead stop.
Teleport Platform
Teleport Platforms warp you to a linked destination the moment you bounce on them.
Designers use them for shortcuts, surprise repositioning, and multi-room layouts that would be impossible with normal jumps alone.
Gravity Switch Platform
Gravity Switch Platforms invert gravity when bounced on. The ceiling becomes the floor until gravity flips again.
Combined with spikes, elevators, and switches, inverted gravity turns familiar layouts into completely new challenges.
Rotate Platform
Rotate Platforms twist the camera and player orientation when you bounce on them.
They disorient on purpose. Left and right feel different after a spin, so players must relearn the space mid-level.
Timed Platform
Timed Platforms appear and disappear on a repeating interval. When inactive, they are visible but cannot be landed on.
They demand rhythm and patience. Watch the countdown, commit to the bounce window, and keep moving before the next disappear cycle.
Earthquake Platform
Earthquake Platforms are one-shot chaos. Bounce on one and every platform in the level collapses.
Use them as a dramatic finale, a trap, or a puzzle where collapsing the stage is the only way to finish. Watch your step.
How Platform Types Shape Level Design
Mixing these platforms is what makes Platform Hopper levels feel unique. A few common design patterns include:
- Switch hunts with spike and fragile pathing
- Precision routes using anti-bounce and timed platforms
- Momentum puzzles with trampolines and elevators
- Mind-bending rooms with gravity switches, rotation, and teleports
- High-risk finales with earthquake collapse sequences
In the editor, every platform is grid-snapped and playtestable instantly, so you can combine mechanics and tune difficulty in minutes.
